David Herskowitz: Founder and Creative Director, Splash Creative

David Herskowitz is the founder and creative director of Splash Creative, a senior-led branding and web design agency in New York City. He leads every client engagement personally — brand strategy, visual identity, web design, and copywriting from one team, from kickoff through final delivery.

Splash Creative works with established B2B companies, professional services firms, law firms, financial advisory practices, healthcare companies, nonprofits, fintech startups, and founder-led businesses across New York City and New Jersey. Projects start at $15,000. Most brand and web engagements run $35,000–$75,000.

What David Does — and What That Means for Your Project

Most agencies are built around a founding creative director who pitches and a team that delivers. The pitch team and the build team are different people. You meet one person, you get another.

Splash Creative is built differently. David runs the positioning workshop. David writes the creative brief. David makes the design decisions. David writes or directs all copy. When a client needs to revisit a direction or the project hits a difficult moment, David is in the room. Not a project manager relaying feedback. Not an account director interpreting the brief. David.

This is not a pitch. It is how the studio is structured and why it is structured that way. The work that matters most in a branding engagement — the strategic decisions that determine whether the brand actually performs commercially — requires continuity. The person who understands the positioning problem needs to be the person solving the design problem. When those are different people, something gets lost in translation, and it usually shows up in the work.

The Companies David Works With

Most Splash Creative clients are at an inflection point. The company has grown past what the original identity can hold. The brand was built when the business was smaller, younger, or operating in a different market. The founder or leadership team has moved on professionally — the company has more credibility, a stronger track record, a clearer sense of what they are and who they serve — but the brand still says what it said five or ten years ago.

That gap between where the company is and how it presents itself is a commercial problem. It costs deals that should be won. It costs hires who choose a competitor that looks more established. It costs pricing power when the visual identity signals a budget option in a premium market.

Specifically, he works with:

  • B2B professional services firms — consulting, advisory, and expertise-based businesses where positioning clarity and visual credibility directly affect client acquisition and pricing
  • Law firms — from solo practitioners expanding to partnership-scale to mid-size firms in New York and New Jersey repositioning for a specific client type or practice area
  • Healthcare companies and medical practices — specialty physician groups, behavioral health organizations, and healthcare businesses that need a brand that works for patients, referring physicians, and institutional funders simultaneously
  • Nonprofits — organizations that have grown past a volunteer-built identity and need a brand that holds up in conversations with major donors, institutional funders, and the communities they serve
  • Fintech and financial services startups — early and growth-stage companies that need to build credibility and trust as core brand attributes, not as afterthoughts
  • Founder-led businesses — companies where the founder is the brand, and a rebrand requires the strategic and personal work of renegotiating that relationship before any design begins

How David Approaches a Branding Engagement

Every Splash Creative engagement begins with a positioning phase. Before any design work starts, David works with the founding team or leadership to answer three questions: What specific commercial problem does the current brand cause? Who is the exact buyer and what makes them choose one firm over another? What does success look like as a business outcome 18 months from now?

The answers to those questions become the brief that governs every design decision downstream. When a logo option or a color direction or a tone-of-voice choice gets evaluated, it gets evaluated against those criteria — not against personal preference, not against what the CEO’s spouse thinks, not against what was done at a previous company. Against the specific commercial problem the brand needs to solve.

Copywriting is included in every engagement. David writes or directs all brand copy: messaging framework, brand voice guidelines, website copy, and the language the company uses to describe itself in proposals, pitches, and client conversations. He includes copywriting because brand voice and visual identity need to be developed together by the same person who did the positioning work. When they are separate workstreams handled by separate people, the brand sounds like two different companies in two different media.

What David Looks for in a Project

The projects where David does his best work share a few characteristics. The founding team or leadership has a genuine point of view on what the company is and what it is not. The decision maker is willing to be direct about the commercial problem the brand is causing, not just the aesthetic dissatisfaction. And the company is at a stage where brand investment makes strategic sense — not a startup that needs its first business cards, but an established operation that has earned the right to look like what it actually is.

If that sounds like your company, talk to David about your project.
